Coordination exercises for children’s handball training

Coordination is an important skill that is not only required in handball. In order to promote and consolidate the ability, you should already complete exercises when training children.

  • In the first exercise, each child picks up two balls. Now the child has to throw the balls backwards and upwards at the same time, but in such a way that after half a turn he can catch them both again.
  • You can then expand and vary these coordination exercises. The child picks up two balls again, throws them back and up again, but now instead of turning halfway, has to go backwards and catch both balls.
  • The next exercise in children’s training is similar to juggling. Each child takes a handball in each hand and stretches their arms out to the side. The balls are now thrown over their heads to the other hand at almost the same time and must be caught. Alternately, the balls are thrown in front of the body to the other hand. If two balls are too difficult at the beginning of the children’s training, let the children first practice with just one handball.
  • In handball there are also coordination exercises with the wall. Each child lies on their back on the floor. The distance from the head to the wall is 1-2 meters. Now the child throws the ball backwards against the wall and has to catch it again while lying on his back.
  • The next exercise can also be carried out with the wall and requires teams of two. Both people stand one behind the other in front of the wall. The first child throws the ball against it and immediately stands behind the second child. The player has to catch the ball and throw it against the wall again. Then it stands behind the first child, who now has to catch the ball. This continues until you finish the exercise.
